SUMMARY:Blue & White Botanical Beauties: Cyanotype Workshop
DESCRIPTION:An opportunity to learn the historic photographic technique of
cyanotype using a range of botanical\nspecimens\, feathers and lace. Creat
e beautiful blue and white photograms from nature. Cyanotype\n(or sun prin
ting) is an historic photographic process first invented in 1842. In this
three hour taster\nsession you will learn about the traditional process an
d make your own beautiful images to take\nhome.\n\nCyanotype creates a whi
te silhouette on a Prussian blue background. Using the sun to create your\
nimages\, it’s a wonderful way to engage with nature and capture the tin
iest details of a leaf\, petal or\nfern frond.\n\nWe’ll be using cyanoty
pe chemicals painted onto watercolour paper and a selection of leaves\,\nf
lowers\, feathers and lace to create our images. All materials will be pro
vided but if you have a\nfavourite plant\, flower or small piece of lace f
abric bring it along and make your own truly unique\nphotograms to frame a
nd treasure.\n\nIf you love blue and white prints\, this session is defini
tely for you!\n\nAll materials and refreshments are provided\n\n&nbsp\;\n\
 n\n\nAbout Jill:\n\nJill Welham is a printmaker and self-taught cyanotype

ical specimens that she collects from her garden and surrounding countrysi
de. Her images have been exhibited internationally and many of her origina
l cyanotype prints are in private collections around the world.\n\nJill co
mpleted a yearlong project to create a body of work using plants and flowe
rs collected from the walled garden of Burton Agnes Hall\, a historic coun
try house in East Yorkshire\, UK. The completed work was exhibited in the
Garden Gallery at the Hall in 2021.\n\nShe now lives and works in Nairn\,
in the Scottish Highlands and makes her work outside in her garden\, using
only the sun to expose the images.\n\n\n
