DESCRIPTION:In this unique workshop\, artist Catherine Whiteman will teach 
 the ancient art of Japanese Suminagashi marbling.\n\nAll materials include
 d\, however\, please bring along some lunch\, some kitchen roll\, and wear
  old clothing.\n\nUsing traditional methods and materials you will learn t
 his beautiful\, meditative technique in a quiet &amp\; relaxing atmosphere
 .\n\nCatherine will showcase traditional tools for participants to see\, a
 s well as guide you through its history. She will then show you how to cre
 ate your own beautiful Suminagashi work using various interesting papers.\
 n\nThis is a quiet and restorative process but exciting when you see your 
 prints emerging!\nAbout your tutor\nCatherine studied painting and conserv
 ation of works of art on paper in New York and London and has taught works
 hops in Scotland and the UK. Her specialism is working with words and pape
 r: calligraphic\, letterpress and book arts. She is passionate about the b
 enefits of the creative process itself and not merely the outcome. Her wor
 k\, including Suminagashi\, is held in private and public collections incl
 uding the Scottish Parliament and Scottish National Archives and the UK Ho
 use of Lords
