The Studio Practice Course takes place on a Thursday and runs throughout the academic year at MAC and is divided into three terms. There is an end-of-year summer exhibition at the end of term III but participants can simply commit themselves to one term at a time if they like. The Studio Practice Course invites artists and individuals who are already creating their own work to develop and expand their art practice under the guidance of experienced tutor and practicing artist, Kenneth Le Riche.
There will be individual tutorials which aim to identify the essence and direction of each participant’s practice and devise strategies to take it forward. The course will provide participants with critical feedback on their work, introduce new practical skills and advice on how to push their work further. Ideas and aesthetics will be explored while developing elements of composition such as line, tone and colour. New materials and methods will be introduced and the course can also advise on developing an art school portfolio where necessary. There will be slides and discussions relevant to the participants’ work.
A range of core materials is provided; including pencils, graphite sticks, willow charcoal, compressed charcoal, chalk, ink, pastels, acrylic paints, oil paints, solvents, binders, pigments, and paper. Easels and drawing boards are also provided. Participants may also wish to bring any additional materials of their choice. Refreshments and snack lunch included.
