Let’s Sketch

10 Weeks: Let’s Sketch

Why and how do other artists use sketchbooks/visual diaries? We will be looking at the sketchbook work of Leonardo Da Vinci, Henry Morre, Frida Khalo, Ellsworth Kelly, David Hockney, Barbara Rae and many more to put our work into context.

We’ll be meeting at the Findhorn Village Centre for 5 consecutive Friday mornings 10am – 1pm and going out and about in Findhorn with our sketchbooks, trying out different art materials every week and drawing (and writing if you wish) filling your sketchbook observing the fisher folk’s houses, the bay, the beach, the boats in the boat yard etc. If the weather is too windy or wet, we can sketch in the café, The Captain’s Table, whilst drinking coffee/tea/hot chocolate. The café has fantastic views through large windows looking out onto the bay or you can draw the objects or people in the café. Whatever takes your fancy!

After a break with no class on Friday 17th October, the following 5 weeks we will be located at the Moray Art Centre on the Eco-Village Park in Findhorn where you can keep going to Findhorn Village to sketch more or start to develop your sketches into bigger drawings and paintings in the Art Centre studios.

After 10 weeks of working with the theme of Findhorn using many different art materials, you will have built up a strong and varied body of work. Feedback will be given throughout the course and on the last week we will have an informal pop-up exhibition and discussion with the group to complete the course.

Art materials we will be experimenting with and using, will be: pencils, rubbers, conte crayons, charcoal, black ink, pen and Chinese brushes, coloured inks and coloured pencils, chalk and oil pastels, watercolour crayons, watercolour, gouache, acrylic and/or oil paints. We can also use collage materials.

We will be making our own sketchbooks including an A4 standard book and a concertina sketchbook which has many fold- out pages and is a lot of fun to use!
