Aimed at beginners to portrait painting in oils and experienced artists alike, this 5 day Summer School class focuses upon portrait painting from a live model.
For those new to oils, we will explore the versatility of oils as a medium as well as colour mixing, values, colour temperature and the varied techniques of application and finishing.
The elements of design with which artists work are the observable properties of matter, line, shape and form, space, texture, value (lights and darks), lighting, colour and time. Although these elements are unified in successful works of art, we will isolate and try to deal with them one at a time, to train our eye to see them and to understand how artist use them.
This enjoyable and challenging class will provide the opportunity to work through your interpretation and representation of the subject with the aim of providing an understanding of how to combine paint, surface and sitter into resolved works that captures a resemblance of the model along with their elusive essence and personality.
