This life painting course will lead you towards developing your observational drawing and painting skills, when working with a live model.
Georgia will guide you towards measuring the model accurately and convincingly embedding the figure in space (the MAC studio). Capturing light and shadow, skin tone and background tones will be crucial.
Georgia will direct the model to arrange themselves in exciting poses and we will work in response to both quick dynamic poses and longer static poses.
Mixed media painting materials will be provided and experimentation with various tools and types of paint will be encouraged. Working simultaneously on a range of paper/ card types and rapidly in sketchbooks, will help you expand your repertoire of techniques and processes.
The first 30 minutes of the session will allow time for you to set up, get materials ready and prepare a range of surfaces (perhaps with gesso, if using oil paint for example).
We will then work with a modal for roughly 2 hours (with a break for a cup of tea and a biscuit!) and spend the last 30 mins developing and finalising other areas of our paintings.
ABOUT YOUR TUTOR
Georgia has exhibited in the UK since 2009 and internationally since 2017. She graduated with a 1st Class BA Honours degree in Fine Art from DJCAD in 2009 and an MFA in Contemporary Art Practice from ECA, in 2013.
As well as being an Artist, she has been a lecturer and tutor in various Scottish institutions (DJCAD, ECA, LSA, RGU, MAC) since 2014, and in 2018/2019 she ran an international Post Graduate course in Art & Design, at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, in China.
In support of her research Georgia has received grants and support from The Scottish International Education Trust, The British Council, The British Embassy in Iceland, The Norwegian Artists Association and Edinburgh University, among others. She has also received several painting awards from The Royal Scottish Academy and Dundee University.
