This course is perfect for those who have come along to Angela’s Still Life taster session, or for those beginners that are looking to spend a full day learning the joy of still-life. Still-life offers one of the best subjects for a beginner to sample mediums and techniques and begin the journey into understanding form, depth and perception. 10:30 – 4:30 All materials included What to expect from the class: We will begin with absolute simplicity and a very basic prop setup making a few explorations in charcoals as we begin to explore the relationship between the form and the light source. Moving on you will be encouraged to try a variety of dry mediums and different surfaces and more complex prop sets. If time allows we will venture outside to explore still life en plein air with props and set up provided by nature using our sketchbooks to gain an understanding that still life isn’t all about shutting ourselves up in a room but can instead become a lively and enjoyable activity which we can easily manage to make a commitment to ourselves to partake in. Throughout the session, we will refer to historical and current artists working within the still life genre and the many styles in which the genre is presented. About Still-life: Still-life has historically always been the underdog of the art world, but during our time we are going to learn that rather than a subject you attempt with a bored shrug, it is indeed something the beginner artist can become very excited about. Still-life can become one of the most important and readily available tools within your toolset. This wonderful genre offers the beginner an open and readily available safe area in which to begin that journey into learning about different mediums and how they handle, how to choose appropriate surfaces for mediums, how to begin understanding tonal value, light, perception and how to let yourself fall in love with the form.
