Moray Art Centre welcomes back Bibo and Brian Keeley in their exhibition The Shared Heart (12 Years).

The Shared Heart (12 Years) is an on-going body of autobiographical work by artist duo Bibo & Brian Keeley. Their collaborative work in sculpture, installation, and film has been evolving since Brian’s heart transplant in 2013.  The artists’ deeply personal work explores the physical and emotional challenges, and medical complexities of a post-transplant life, which co-exist with Bibo & Brian’s appreciation for their continued shared life.  The body of work in the exhibition ‘The Shared Heart (12 Years)’ reflects on memory, survival, the fragility of life, and the transformative realities of heart transplantation.

Their collaborative work in sculpture, installation, and film, explores the physical and emotional challenges, and the medical complexities, of a post-transplant life, which co-exist with Bibo & Brian’s appreciation for their continued shared life.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Brian Keeley
Brian Keeley graduated from The Glasgow School of Art in the 1980s, and later obtained an MA from Bournemouth University, and a PGDE teaching qualification from The University of the West of Scotland.  Previously, Brian worked in community arts and education, before moving to Germany in 2001, where he worked as a commercial video editor and as a teacher of English as a foreign language. In 2009 he returned to Scotland and was a teacher of Art & Design in various secondary schools in Aberdeen.
Following a long period of critical illness and a subsequent heart transplant in 2013, he returned to being a full-time artist/practitioner, working across a variety of disciplines.  His art practice continues to be informed by the lived experience as a heart transplant recipient, often incorporating imagery associated with the medications and clinical interventions which characterise a post-transplant life.  In 2025 Brian achieved a PhD from the University of Aberdeen, for his Doctoral thesis which examines representations of heart transplantation in popular culture.
