Moray Art Centre presents Untitled, by John Ferguson & Roddy McKenzie
The next exhibition taking place in the gallery space, displaying a series of paintings and photographs by John and Roddy. Opening event on Saturday the 12th at 5-7pm – all welcome!
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
John is a visual artist who works across mediums. The work addresses a wide range of issues and demonstrates some significant changes in his approach to painting and photography. The aim is not to answer, explain or clarify but stimulate thoughts and emotion in the viewer. As an artist, John believes the world has buried the process of thinking with simple answers and fear and turned seeing into just looking.
Roddy is a photographer with a monochrome bias living in the North East of Scotland. He tends to make photographs in the tradition of independent photography, so work characterised by a strong leaning towards individualism. Roddy has always been drawn to minimalism and his practice concentrates on three aspects: how small in physical size or content an image can be and still hold a narrative, how close one can get to the abstract and still recognise the subject and how we make sense of the abstract. This is the first time he has shown photographs that he would consider to be purely abstract.
“Why abstract? Climate anxiety, the Anthropocene, global political instability including ongoing genocides and an increasing distrust and despair in state authorities (worldwide) push the needle on what kind of photographs I feel like making. Abstraction offers a break from reality.”
The show will be on until June and our gallery is open Friday – Sunday 10am – 4pm!
