The first landscape paintings in history are from the Tang dynasty in China. The Song dynasty of the 12th century elevated the art of landscape to a high status.
Using Bamboo pens & brushes we will look at the style and technique of Chinese painting known as ‘Shan Hui’ (Mountain and River). This technique was influenced by Daoist and Taoist philosophy which was all about our connection to nature and our place within it. This style of painting which became known as caligraphic painting has had a huge influence on Western art, including artists such as Van Gogh and the abstract Impressionists.
Jonathan will provide guidance and demonstrations on the technique which will give you an insight into this wonderful style and will improve your drawing and painting skills.
